Complementing Virgil's Aeneid and its glorification of Rome and Augustus are Horace's six Roman Odes, three hundred and thirty-six verses in Alcaeus-style quatrains, published in 23 BC. These are addressed not to any one person, as some of his other poems are, but to all patriotic citizens.
