I never saw this view of Francis. It’s especially odd because usually an alternative opinion comes many years after the a person is gone and info comes out over time.
I suppose your opinion can be true although I can’t see how you’d have that thorough an insight to make it fact. Still you’re entitled to your opinion and I would not discount it. I’ll take a look myself.
An interesting linkage between populism, centralization of authority, and personality cults.
There is no singular definition of “populism”. But my preferred one for the moment involves SOMETHING like a mobilizing generalized sense that the status quo (with all its traditions, etc) is not serving the interests of large swaths of the population who lack access to concentrated resources.
Centralization of authority can be a way of self aggrandizement. But it is also a way of pinpointing responsibility. An “idiot”* like trimp is driven by a scary sort of “self love” enmeshed with all kinds of terrors associated with shame and guilts stemming from a compulsive string misdeeds and offenses that sometimes may seem to have crossed a “Rubicon” of no return where . . . one either becomes a revered and all powerful emperor, “god-king” or is murdered. Except it’s not a “binary”: another potential is to survive as a elevated pincushion of shame, ridicule, disgust etc… although life is not a “story” with beginnings, middles, and ends . . . “absolute” ABJECTION can be flipped into revelatory epiphanies of redemption, “justification” and then flipped again like Richard Feynman’s spinning arrows of complex “imaginaries” and “reals” that cancel each other out to pinpoint a passè position or velocity of some intersection of fields. (*”idiocy” is a form of stupidity, but stupidity is not always the opposite of lack of intelligence or abilities to problem solve and understand. Stupidity is often the emotionally driven destructive misuse of intelligence. “Idiocy” in the classical Greek sense is the stupidity that misunderstands or DENIES one’s responsibilities — sometimes with clever sophistry, other times wih moronic, childish, brazen defiance of ideals, reason, and limits.)
i don’t know what a “hard core” Catholic is. Probably involves something to do with cherry-picked traditions????
“Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. And a person’s enemies will be those of his own household.” That’s in Matthew.
“Do you think that I have come to give peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division. For from now on in one house there will be five divided, three against two and two against three. They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.” That’s in Luke.
Lots of people can grasp that even JESUS is ruling out “peace on earth”. Then they can scour the Old and New Testaments to other references to peace in the world v a kingdom of “G-d” or “heaven” where “peace” might somehow be found although in Luke there is “ἡ βασιλεία τοῦ θεοῦ ἐντὸς ὑμῶν ἐστιν”, which can be translated as:
• “The kingdom of God is within you”
• “The kingdom of God is among you”
• “The kingdom of God is in your midst
“Divisions”, “swords”and “kingdoms of god” within or amonkssstt us seems like a paradox even if one wants to claim that the kingdom of god/heaven is not necessarily a place of “peace” or at least not one without division (maybe a kind of rabbinical conclave where everybody argues endlessly or a contentious study group somewhat like Shaw’s “Don Juan in Hell” segment in “Man and Superman”?)
A Rene Girardian interpretation of “the sword of Jesus” is based on the assertion that human civilization (perhaps our very “hominization” or distinction from related species) is based on violence thus we must constantly be struggling against civilization and tradition.

I like how you bring to well known people of high standards and compare their place in the standards 😏

Monotheism as egotism. Very interesting.
I bet you would enjoy this, assuming you don't know it already.
